Massive 128v128 online Frag Fest ph34r.gif

"Like most online shooters released in the post-Call of Duty 4 era, MAG will offer a robust leveling and upgrade system. Every positive feat you pull off on the battlefield accrues some experience points, from winning a match right on down to the simplest knife kill. Beginning at level one, you'll create a character by choosing a faction to join, customizing his look with a number of outfits and preset facial configurations, and then deciding whether you want to roll with the default weapons loadouts or create your own. Want to be a clean-cut sniper dressed head to toe in camouflage? Maybe a reckless machine gunner with a tattoo on the side of your head and sweet wraparound sunglasses? The choice is up to you. "

It sounds ace as a spiritual successor to Planetside in a lot of ways, so really hoping it's good. Only thing is it looked a little janky and rough in a lot of the footage that's come out, but hopefully that was just early beta stuff at work.. :/

You digging your PS3 so far?

I LOVE IT ! smile.gif

Its a mix of MW2 and Battlefield, you can choose from 3 sides -
  • Raven is the Eurocentric technophile team
  • Valor is stocked with North American military vets
  • S.V.E.R. is a hodgepodge of insurgent types from across Asia.

I have gone with SVER due to having a Skin unlock which i can not find grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Going back to the game you level up your Char and get to put points into different fields, like for example i have started to put my points into the sniper tree as that is the only way i can play with a pad ph34r.gif But by the looks of it you can mix and match these points to your own gamestyle.

Also as you level up you unlock different maps / equipment / clothing and weapons. For me on the SVER side later on i can aquire a Hockey mask which fits in nicely with there look smile.gif

The graphics arent going to blow you away but sometimes you can forgive this if the gameplay rocks and for me it defenitly delievers there cool.gif

This game is also about teamplay and completing objectives for your side, Im not sure how it all works yet but there a stats on certain maps which show how many players are playing and whos winning the war ect.

Well i hope this gives you a little insight into the game from a noobs prospective wink.gif But if enjoy FPS games then i think this is defo worth a purchess smile.gif

That sounds cool. I was wondering...does it have a monthly fee, or is more like playing BF2 or something? Also, how does it handle with the crappy PS3 analogue sticks? wink.gif And lastly is there proper persistance with the war like Planetside, etc, or is more like playing CoD where everything is reset between games?

  1. No Monthly Fee.
  2. If i can play with the controllers then a PRO like you will be fine, Bloody 360 Fanboy u tongue.gif
  3. Never played PS but it does seem that the war rages on bud, without resets.
At the mo i only have 2 maps available to me, On is a Training map where you can level up agaisnt you own Faction with no imapact on the War.

The other i have is a Defend and Capture. On start screen it shows you how many players are playing for each Faction and lets you know via voice over how your Faction is doing in the War.

Once the map loads its 32 v 32 and you effort adds to the overall War effort, im guessing that Bonuses may be given to what ever Faction is leading at the time, BUT that is pure speculation as im only a low LvL and havent opened the rest of the game yet.

Here are some snippets of what Reviews are saying.
  • But when it comes to the business beyond shooting your gun at people, MAG is one of the best shooters you can play on any platform. What MAG accomplishes is a sense that you're a part of something big. Bigger than yourself.
  • MAG starts you off with a few pared-down modes for warming up. But you're not truly playing until you're in the domination mode, in which 256 players are split into two sides, one attacking, the other defending. Each side consists of four 32-player platoons, each divided into four squads of eight players.
Full review HERE!

Enjoy and go get it smile.gif

Patch v1.03

Available February 25, 2010 | 41MB (TPPS), 49MB (DLS)

Gameplay
  • Overhauled tuning of multiple weapons of all types (see “Weapon” section below)
  • Improved speed of weapon and gear swapping by approximately 500 milliseconds.
  • Fixed bug in SVER’s Aralkum Mechanical Acquisition map and Absheron Refinery Domination map that allowed players to defuse a charge planted on a repaired gate or door.
  • Added a “solid tone” sound effect near the end of a charge’s beeping detonation timer so that players know when the charge can no longer be defused and that they should vacate the area.
  • “Medium Improved” Armor now works as intended with the speed properties of Medium Armor and a defensive value greater than Medium, but less than Heavy Armor.
  • Changed resuscitated player’s camera orientation to match the last camera direction used while incapacitated instead of the pre-harm camera.
  • Players no longer lose XP if a teammate is killed by an objective explosion caused by a charge they planted.
  • Respec Point requirements in Barracks have been changed from 3K, 5K, 10K, 17K, 26K, and 26K-Repeat to 1K, 2K, 3K, and 3K-Repeat.
  • Lowered the amount of damage necessary to kill an incapacitated enemy
  • All fired projectiles (RPGs, Turret Rockets) have been given a steadier aim.
  • Mines that haven’t been triggered are no longer removed from the map when the dead player that deploys them respawns unless that player changes their Loadout (note: The maximum number of mines you can plant cannot exceed the number you initially spawn with).
  • Fixed bug that prevented “fully-resuscitated” players with more than 100 health points from receiving their full HP.
  • Fixed bug that caused players to take unnecessary damage from both friendly and enemy vehicles when touching them.
  • Players no longer lose leadership points after entering “Veteran Mode.
Weapons
  • “From the hip” firing for Light and Medium machine guns have stronger recoil and are less accurate when moving.
  • Tuned weapon damage for all three factions.
  • Modified all short-ranged weapons (pistols, PDWs, shotguns, SMGs) so that they’re less effective at long distances.
  • Made Battle Rifles more effective.
  • Reduced accuracy bonus for using iron sights and reflex sights so that players can no longer snipe with weapons that aren’t intended to do so.
  • Increased damage values for all rockets to make them more effective (ex: three rockets can now destroy a DE turret).
  • Shooting through thin materials (fences, tents, etc.) will be more consistent.
  • Increased spread on shotguns.
  • Improved animations for rocket launchers.
Graphics
  • Fixed bug that caused the recoil animation to end early or stop animating if a player was firing their weapon for a long period of time.
  • Changed detonation time on smoke and poison gas grenades to prevent them from exploding in mid-air to eliminate unintended FX issues.
  • Added realistic fogging effects to sky-domes.
Technical
  • Fixed most conditions that caused players to be caught in a “respawn loop” which kept restarting the respawn queue when the countdown clock reached 0.
  • Changed in-game conditions to make it less likely to experience in-game freezes.
    Improved client-side stability.
Just gets better and better ph34r.gif

Yeah we both love it mate Im about to hit CAP then im switching to Raven smile.gif

Do you remember the days that all you did was MoHaa? Well this to me (and i guess sharpy) has the same pull.

Its not about first one to 60 nor end game content its just fun, just like Medel used to be, ok you playing the same maps all the while BUT every round every game is different.

If you enjoy Killing / Blowing shit up then this game rocks m8, even if you want to just heal or repair it kicks ass............has everything you need in a frag fest.

I sometimes think that MMORGs have ruined gaming, we expect so much now yet back in the day we where all happy playing the Bridge 24 / 7 ph34r.gif laugh.gif

Defo wanna try out Mag, but money is a wee bit tight with the wedding and all.

Plus I want God of War III something fierce mad.gif

Sounds like a blast though.

That's not related to MAG, I was getting it a lot last week too Sharpy, just watching videos. Seems to have stopped now though.

After playing the God of War demo and being kinda underwhelmed, I think this has popped up to the top of my most wanted PS3 games. Will see how the cash situation is looking when student loans plop into my account next month.
