Missis wants to get a Mac. Now I tried to smooth talk her into the logic of getting a kick arse PC...she cud have my old one laugh.gif ..and I'd be ready and waiting for all these bad arse games which should start showing themselves from September biggrin.gif
But it aint to be be. She's looking at an Imac 24 B418. It has an Nvidia 9400mt. Now frankly I wouldn't know what that is even if it bit me on the bum, but all I wanna know is, will I getz to play anything up and coming..that is if they bother making a game for a MAc.
the only thing that I like about it is for my photo post development..here it's awsome.
Know nothing abut Mac's apart from the fact the owner must've been a Jock blink.gif

Hey mate. I'm not a big Mac guy, but I believe the most recent ones all use Intel chips so you can install Windows on 'em too. You could have seperate partitions for you and your gaming, then a Mac one for her.

I'm not really sure what the performance is like on that sorta thing though, you'd have to do your research.

I might be talking outta me arse on all of that though laugh.gif

Cheers for that Diggs. Looked into it and tbh looks kinda pricey for what you get. Soooo with a boost in charisma I managed to sweet-talk the missis in understanding what she needs to do : Forget a Mac, buy a new Hard Drive, offer her old rig to the National Science Museum and with her new HD take my old machine biggrin.gif Instead I get to upgrade a complete box with a budget of around 800€ party-smiley-020.gif
I'm looking at the idea of building something around a Core i5 750 'Lynnfield' on perhaps a Gigabyte GA-55-UD3R mobo. For the gfx card, not sure . A Radeon 4890 or Nvidia?

I haven't looked at a PC mag in ages (apart from the last day or so) so a bit lost. As I don't really want to upgrade again for a while (photog stuff is costs a fortune dry.gif ) wanna be ready for the Armada of awsome looking games which will be rolling out as of the next few weeks even.

I'm all ears if anyone knows what's around the market at the mo.
Cheers ears wink.gif

Nice work, smooth talker laugh.gif

I just upgraded my CPU to a quad core 9400, and bought a new graphics card to go with it (Nvidia GTX260). Plus threw another gig of ram in, bringing it up to 3gigs. Now I can play everything, pretty much all at 60 frames per second, on my stupidly high rez monitor (1920x1200). I got all that for about 250 to 300 quid, and made 150 of that back selling the old parts on ebay. Not bad really!

Heh wink.gif
Nice one on your rig cool.gif
Just finished ordering all the bits and bobs
Intel i5 750 on an Asus P7P55D with Cooler Master Hyper TX3 on top, 4 go Crucial ddr3 ram, Gainward GTX 275, keeping my Hard Drive for the mo, all of this in an Antec P183. I need to figure out what wattage to get, prolly a 550W Corsair. Review said it was pretty good for the price.

Should get it in 2-3 days and hopefully the local geek who lives up my road can do over the weekend...I'll twist his arm ph34r.gif

Bought a Seagate Barracuda 1TO to stick in my old rig with a new heatsink & fan to keep the other half from complaining. If something goes wrong ever, at least I can use 'her' machine. laugh.gif

Bring on those new games...
