With Episode 1 out, seems like a nice time to check out some of the upcoming fan mods for this greatest of games. These in particular grabbed my interest and are worth a bookmark;

Black Mesa Source
http://www.blackmesasource.com/
On Steam, you can buy Half-Life 1 ported over to the new Steam engine...but it's shit. It's exactly the same game, just with added ragdolls and better water. Everything else is just as ugly and dated as it ever was. So these cats have decided to do it properly - they are remaking the whole of Half-Life 1 from the ground up, and even expanding on it and rejuvinating the levels big time. It looks simply amazing, I can't freakin' wait!

Blue Shift Source
http://bssource.bs.funpic.de/
And these nutters are doing the exact same thing for the old Blue Shift expansion pack. Remember that thing? Where you played Barney? Doesn't look quite the leap in graphical quality that the above does, but should still be one to watch, and I'm looking forward to this in particular as I never completed the original version back in the day. I wish someone was doing the Opposing Force add-on too - that was stunning - but I haven't come across it yet.

NeoTokyo
http://www.neotokyohq.com/
Details are still sketchy on this one, but apparently it's some kind of futuristic multiplayer mod set in...well, you guess. Evil corporations, Bladerunner skyscrapers, you know the drill. Music and concept art are amazing - hope we find out more soon. Really strong buzz on this one.

Insurgency
http://www.insmod.net/
This is prob the one I'm looking forward to the most though. It's a modern day, US army Black Hawk Down style online mod - yeah pretty much like we've seen a million of - except this is headed up by a former marine who set out to do justice to his own experiences (he says no other game has pulled it off yet). It's set in the current Iraq war, graphics look mind-blowing, and the detail is pretty incredible. Could be the next Counter-Strike...

Thread revival...

Black Mesa Source (mentioned above) seems to be coming together at last, they have released a trailer that's sure to get any HL1 fan spunking baby batter down his own trouser leg;

The Insurgency mod is finally out! Only had a quick bash, but it seems very America's Army. Mixed with a little BF2;

Had to bump this thread to point out an amazing thread over on GAF, running down all the best Source engine mods, both single and multiplayer. Some amazing looking stuff there;

You tried many of those Crieff? Gonna grab a bunch of the SP ones now.

Think Ive played a few. Minerva Metastasis, Dangerous World, Calamity and I think Too Many Crates! tho not 100% sure if thats true.
With regards to the multiplayer ones Ive played Insurgency, Goldeneye: Source and possibly Dystopia as it looks familiar tho, again, not completely sure.
